The necklace of Freyja, Brsingamen is mentioned in many accounts of Norse stories, including the Epic of Beowulf, where it is called "Brosinga mene", which still derives from the Old Norse "Brsing" meaning fire, and "men" meaning a necklace, or neck adornment.

One poem of residing in the Prose Eddas involves <link="tech:Age 1 Loki">Loki</link> stealing the necklace and disguising himself as a seal. When Freyja notices it missing, she asks <link="tech:Age 2 Heimdall">Heimdall</link> to help her find it. When Heimdall discovers Loki as a seal, he transforms into a seal himself, and fights Loki for the necklace back, which he in turn returns to Freyja.
